What We Stand For

Mission

Our mission is to develop confident athletes who strive for success on and off the field and in life through teamwork, skill-building, citizenship, and a love of the game.

Our Mindset

At Southwestern Trojan Youth Football & Cheer, we believe in balancing competition and character development through:

  • Playing to Win: We encourage athletes to develop a competitive mindset and use the desire to win as motivation for growth and improvement.
  • Building Character: While winning is important, we put fun, teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development first.
  • Living Trojan Tough: Being Trojan Tough means competing with heart, leading with character, and supporting our teammates, on and off the field.
  • Preparing for Life: Our goal is to prepare kids not just for high school sports, but for lifelong success as leaders, teammates, and individuals.

Expectations for Parents and Fans

We ask all spectators to show positive sportsmanship at practices and games by following these guidelines:

  • Cheer positively for all players, coaches, and officials.
  • Avoid negative comments or unsportsmanlike behavior.
  • Understand that violations of these expectations may result in removal from events or further restrictions.

We are proud of our strong tradition of sportsmanship and support, and we thank you for helping us continue it.

Our League

We participate in the Lakeshore Youth Football League (LYFL), which brings together teams from across Western New York. The league emphasizes safety, equal opportunity, and development for all participants—both on and off the field.

Fundraising Committee

We are always looking for volunteers to join the fundraising committee.  The committee is in charge of seeking corporate sponsorships, planning fundraising activities, merch and apparel sales.

Concession Stand

Coordinator: Tonja Devilieger

During each game, the concession stand will be staffed by parents.  Those wishing to avoid this duty may purchase the Concessions Opt-Out.

The league schedule will not be finalized until after the first two weeks of practice.  Once we know when the home games are, there will be a brief sign-up period, after which open spots will be assigned to families yet to volunteer or opt out.

Splitting Rosters

Our rosters may be split into multiple squads per age group.  This is to maximize playing time, and as a result, the development of each athlete and the program as a whole.

Coaches will split the squads up after the first two weeks of practice.

Effort will be taken to keep the teams evenly matched for skill; we will not have a “good” team and “bad” team.

Dividing our talent across multiple teams will lessen our chances at a championship.  As stated above, our primary goal is to pursue state championships at the high school level, and fielding multiple teams per age group done in pursuit of that goal.

Weather

Rookie/Pro Football
The only weather cancellation will be thunder/lightning.  Please dress your athletes accordingly.  Games will be played in heat, rain, and snow, so we need to practice in those conditions as well.

Games

Arrive 45 minutes before kickoff (the time on the schedule)

School Conduct

Our players will be held to a higher standard of behavior and academic performance than their classmates

School faculty and staff have been instructed to contact President Landy directly with any reports of players misbehaving. Those reports will be addressed during conditioning at the following practice.

Players will wear their jerseys to school on Fridays before games.
